I’m so glad you made the bold first step to learn more about therapy. Over the years, counseling has received a negative connotation. However, counseling is simply about discovering techniques to help you accomplish your goals and live a more fulfilling life. My passion is helping people overcome situations that are making them feel anxious, stressed or overwhelmed. During our first session, I will actively listen to you tell your story and describe the areas that you would like to improve. Then, I will explain the treatment options that I believe may be beneficial for you. Together, we will decide what you would like to focus on and how we can best achieve your goals.
I have worked with children, adolescents and adults who are experiencing symptoms from a broad range of mental health concerns such as Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety, Depression, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. I am trained to use a treatment called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which helps to decrease flashbacks and nightmares for children, teens and adults who have experienced trauma. I also use play therapy, sand tray, expressive arts therapy, solutions focused therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy to help people have a well-rounded experience that meets their individual needs.

A bit about my approach to therapy
Self-compassion is always a theme included in all my techniques used. My experiences locally and abroad have exposed me to quite a variety of life situations. Therefore, I can truly make a safe, nonjudgmental space where we can journey together to uncover your pathway to peace & healing. I thank you for taking the time to consider inviting me on your journey.
What you can expect from our first session
People who work with me learn quickly how find small pauses in the day to be more attuned to their self talk and basic needs like eating and other bodily functions. I make these things a priority in our work because we typically have our own answers to solving whatever is presenting as a problem, but many of us have forgotten how to trust ourselves.

Chemenda Sawyer
Welcome to Plus 5 Wellness – A Space for Healing, Growth, and Empowerment. I’m Chemenda, a licensed therapist dedicated to helping Black women navigate the complexities of anxiety, depression, and the emotional weight of cultural and societal expectations. As a Black woman myself, I understand the silent struggles—the pressure to be strong, the exhaustion of constantly showing up for others, and the deep desire to find balance while still chasing your goals.
At my practice, I offer a space where you don’t have to be "strong" all the time. Together, we’ll unpack the stress, the past wounds, and the self-doubt that hold you back. Through a blend of evidence-based approaches and culturally attuned care, I help my clients rediscover their inner peace, regain control of their lives, and build relationships that feel fulfilling and authentic.
Whether you’re struggling with overwhelming anxiety, feeling stuck in a cycle of burnout, or working through past trauma, I am here to support you. This is your journey to healing, and you don’t have to walk it alone. Let’s start this journey together. Ready to take the next step? Contact me today to schedule a consultation.I have been licenses
